OS X Installer version for Intel 10.5+ v6.29.3

Post by Beberg » Wed Mar 31, 2010 9:55 pm

OSX Installer version, find any bugs before I put it on the downloads page :)

[Edit: now on the downloads page]

This will delete the /Applications/Folding@home.app app that doesn't work, along with fixing several severe issues fixed after the SMP branch was made, so this is the latest and greatest.

So have at it.

It installs OK, but it starts up the a1 core. How would you configure it to run -advmethods, or -bigadv if you have eight cores?

Probably just a temporary shortage of work units.

Anyone else seeing this?

Worked perfectly for me in OS X 10.6.3. Grabbed an A3 as well.

Thanks!

Completed the first a1, and now folding a second one. 22 minutes per percent for under 2K points per day.

Oh well, at least I'm not aborting a3 units now!

[Update] Now on my third a1 unit. The second one took about 36 hours for 2144 points :e?:

Do I need to manually edit the cfg file with this installer? I have a MacPro 1,1, 2.66. I have switched to this version from the Increase software. I don't know whether it had anything to do with how Increase installed the cores (probably not), but I was getting a lot of early terminations, so decided to switch to the console version.

This software will establish its own Folding directory, different from the InCrease folding directory. If you want to use the same .cfg file that you used under InCrease, you can copy it over into the console client's folding directory.

You may have been getting early terminations due to using an earlier version of the console client under InCrease. If you ever want to go back to it, don't just start using the InCrease setup you had before. Scrub it all out, including the installer client, and start fresh to get the most recent client version.

The early failures may have been associated with the a3core "early failure" pandemic that is being experienced by some of the OSX Folders.

Whatever the reason, by installing the console version using this installer, I have not had any early terminations over the last few days. Count me as a satisfied customer of the installer!

Here are the flags I entered in the "Extra parameters" section:
-local -advmethods -forceasm -verbosity 9 -smp

Have I missed any?

Looks like things are working well so far, minus the usual core issues.

You should not be using the -local flag in the pref pane extra args.

Since installing this version I have had seven a1 units and nothing else.

The ps -ax listing shows it running from the command:

usr/local/fah/fah6

with no flags. How should it be running, and where should it be getting its flags from?

Flags go in the prefpane window. Add the ones lssmit02 used above, minus the -local

you'll have to stop/start the client after making the flag changes, and it will finish the WU it's on before getting more.
